QUOTABLE QUOTES
by Randall "Rex" Erickson
As our Supreme Court has explained, "[o]ur school system is established not to provide jobs for teachers but rather to educate the young." (Turner v. Board of Trustees (1976) 16 Cal.3d 818, 825; California Teachers Ass'n v. Mendocino Unified School Dist. (2001) 92 Cal.App.4th 522, 528.)
Suppliers may conclude that assumption of such a huge potential liability is an excessive price to pay to remain in the bottlecap supply business, whose products, in modesty of size, compare with horseshoe nails. And as the proverb tells us, the chain of causality can readily link the loss of a kingdom to the loss of a horseshoe nail. (International Knights of Wine, Inc. v. Ball Corp. (1980) 110 Cal.App.3d 1001, 1008 (J. Fleming, dissent)).
